Annual Statistics 2019: 77% Success Rate at Appeal

We have collated our statistics for the year of 2019. Below you can find a breakdown of all the areas we recorded. We would like to thank our staff, volunteers and trustees for the incredible work they do, which has all lead to incredible results. Appeal Success Rate  We are proud to report that we have continued our high success rate in asylum appeals. Following from our success rate of 70% for the period between 2014-2018, we have increased to a 77% success rate in 2019. This is nearly double the national success rate (41% as per Refugee Council). Our New Project: Drop-in Diaries

Every week, we have a free drop-in advice surgery, and every week, a small group of lawyers give face-to-face legal advice to many of the most vulnerable migrants and asylum seekers who have no where left to turn. People who are not eligible for legal aid, and who are often left to fend for themselves on the streets. We give advice to an average of 25 people each week, and because of this, we thought it would be pretty wasteful not to shine a light on some of these stories. 2019 Cardiff Legal Walk

We are proud to announce that Asylum Justice will be taking part in the Cardiff Legal Walk. Asylum Justice is the only charity based in Wales providing free legal advice to asylum seekers, refugees and migrants. We advice clients on areas where legal aid is limited such as asylum appeals and where there is no access to legal aid such as fresh asylum claims, leave to remain and family reunion. Many of our clients are living in poor conditions, destitute, suffering from poor health, or are applying for a visa for a family member who may be in a war zone or living in terrible conditions in a refugee camp. We have recently collated our statistics dating back to 2014, the date where we essentially reopened our advice giving and representing capacities after a brief period of closure. A Warm Welcome to Matthew Rhys

Asylum Justice are excited to welcome our new patron, Matthew Rhys. Born in Cardiff, Matthew has gone on to win an Emmy in 2018 for his role as Phillip Jennings in the acclaimed television series The Americans. He is also known for playing Dylan Thomas in the film Edge of Love and Daniel Ellsberg in Stephen Spielberg's The Post. Matthew has been nominated for two Golden Globes.
