Femmigje (aka Emmy) Chater arrived in the United Kingdom in 1999 from the Netherlands.  In 2001 she started working for a Local Authority/Newport City Council in various roles supporting asylum seekers and refugees. During this period she obtained a BA Hons in Social Work and has been a registered Social Worker since. Emmy had until recently been the migration policy officer for Newport City Council. She was initially involved with Asylum Justice as a volunteer and then became a trustee for Asylum Justice in 2007. She is also registered at OISC level 1.
